NEW YORK — For its 25th anniversary, this year’s American Image Awards promises a roster of all-stars for its black-tie dinner and dance.
The fashion benefit, sponsored by the American Apparel & Footwear Association, will honor Bruce Klatsky, chairman and chief executive officer of Phillips-Van Heusen, with the organization’s Man of the Year Award. Diane Von Furstenberg will receive the Designer of the Year Award, and George Jones, president and ceo of Saks Department Store Group and chief operating officer of Saks Inc., will receive the Retailer of the Year Award. The fashion benefit, for the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation, will take place at 6 p.m. on May 19 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan.
Other honorees for the evening will include Dr. Valerie Steele, chief curator of The Museum of the Fashion Institute of Technology, receiving the Artistry of Fashion Award; and Dana Reeve, receiving the Spirit of a Woman Award for her humanitarian achievements as cofounder of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center.
The event will be co-hosted by Paul Charron, chairman and ceo of Liz Claiborne Inc., and Paula Zahn of CNN, who is also co-emceeing that night along with Klatsky.
The American Image Awards recognizes extraordinary leadership and achievement in retail and design while benefiting charity. Past honorees have included: Mackey J. McDonald, ceo of VF Corp.; Michael Gould, chairman and ceo of Bloomingdale’s; Arthur Martinez, ceo of Sears, and the late Stanley Marcus, chairman of Neiman Marcus.
Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia.
