Dolce & Gabbana is 4,400 square feet, while the D&G store is a 2,900-square-foot space — including a 600-foot mezzanine. Both stores house men’s, women’s and accessories collections. On Wednesday, a 3,000-square-foot store will bow at the new luxury center Santana Row in San Jose, and on Nov. 12, the first Tod’s boutique in Hawaii will open at 2100 Kalakaua in Waikiki, Honolulu. It’s 5,000 square feet. The company plans to open its first freestanding boutique in Japan next March.
CUSTOMS SETS 24-RULE: As part of its antiterrorism precautions, the U.S. Customs Service Thursday issued an order requiring sea carriers to give the agency information about cargo coming from abroad 24 hours before it is loaded on a U.S.-bound ship. Retailers and other textile and apparel officials on Monday are scheduled to meet with Customs commissioner Robert Bonner to urge that these manifests remain confidential. Importers are concerned about cargo theft and proprietary information being disclosed to competitors. Companies that fail to provide accurate manifest information could risk receiving fines or having their cargo left on the dock.
