SHOPKO CHIEF: Sam Duncan has joined ShopKo Stores Inc., the Green Bay, Wis.-based regional discounter, as president and chief executive officer. Duncan, who previously was president of Fred Meyer Corp. in Portland, Ore., succeeds William Podany who, as reported, resigned in April. Jeffrey Girard, who had acted as interim ceo since Podany’s departure, remains with the firm as vice chairman of finance and administration and will report to Duncan. ShopKo operates 366 discount stores under the ShopKo and Pamida banners in 23 states.
SEVENTH-INNING STRETCH: It doesn’t look like the Fila saga is going to end anytime soon. Majority shareholder Holding di Partecipazioni Industriali has been trying to sell its stake in the money-losing sports group for over a year. But HdP chief executive Maurizio Romiti appears to be backtracking. Romiti told analysts in Milan that talks are continuing with prospective buyers, but he also said HdP is ready to reorganize the company if it can’t strike a deal. "We’ll pull the company off the market and we’ll restructure it," he said. HdP has identified those in talks as investment funds Continental and Golden Gate, as well as jeans maker VF Corp.
