RECOVERY TIME: Delia’s Corp. president Andrea Weiss, who is on medical leave recovering from surgery, will take an extended leave of absence to spend more time with her family. While Weiss will retain her seat on the board and will continue to advise the New York-based multichannel retailer, she will no longer be involved in the day-to-day operations. Separately, Delia’s reported Wednesday it has retained Peter J. Solomon Co. to explore and evaluate strategic alternatives. But Delia’s warned investors that hiring a consultant is no assurance the review will result in a transaction.

NEW CFO AT JONES UNIT: Jones Apparel Group has named Gloria DiPuma chief financial officer of footwear, accessories and retail. In this role, DiPuma will oversee the financial operations for the wholesale footwear and accessories businesses, and the Nine West Retail Group. DiPuma joined the company in June 1999 through the acquisition of Nine West Group Inc. where she worked since 1993 in various senior financial and operational roles. DiPuma will continue to report to Rhonda Brown, president and chief executive officer of footwear, accessories and retail.

HOLDING PATTERN: Prada chief Patrizio Bertelli reiterated on Thursday that his firm’s IPO is still on hold. “We will think about it next year,” said Bertelli at a presentation of the new IWC for Prada watch in Milan. “We are working to reduce our debt and cut costs.” The upbeat ceo had just flown in from New Zealand, where he was following his Luna Rossa races for the Louis Vuitton Cup. Bertelli added he expects “second half [financials] to bring positive results.”

VOID FILLED: ShopKo Stores Inc. has named Steven Andrews senior vice president and general counsel, starting Oct. 28. The general counsel position has been vacant for more than 18 months, since the Green Bay, Wisc.-based retailer’s corporate reorganization in January 2001. Andrews, 49, will assume responsibility for all legal matters affecting ShopKo and its Pamida division. He will also advise the board on matters of corporate governance. Prior to joining Shopko, Andrews was senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of PepsiAmericas Inc. (formerly Whitman Corp.), the second-largest bottler of Pepsi-Cola products.
