FACONNABLE MOVES: Façonnable SAS, the classic-style French designer brand owned by Nordstrom, has named Thierry Domarak president. In this role, Domarak will oversee the brand’s European operations and report to Mark Brashear, president of Nordstrom Product Group. Domarak, who for the last year served as the company’s director of human resources and financial director, succeeds Pierre Guerin, who left the company in February after one year.
SHOE BLUES: Stephane Kelian, the high-end maker of shoes and accessories, has filed for the French equivalent of Chapter 11 proceedings. The company, based in southeastern France, blamed its financial difficulties on losses accumulated over the last two years. "The group is very fragile at a time of crisis in the luxury sector," Kelian said in a statement. The company had losses of about $1 million last year on sales of about $46 million. Besides its Stephane Kelian line, the firm also operates the low-priced Mosquitos shoe brand. Kelian employs about 550 people.
GLASSER VAULTS TO VALUE: Value City Department Stores said Tuesday that Stuart Glasser had joined the company to head the softlines merchandising operations of its department stores. Glasser, former president and chief operating officer of Casual Male Corp., succeeds Ray Blanton, who left to pursue other interests. Glasser’s previous retail experience includes positions at Bloomingdale’s, Elder-Beerman Stores Corp. and Lord & Taylor. Glasser doesn’t yet have a title, but isn’t overly concerned. "I’m not really a title person. It’s still to be determined. We’re still working on a bunch of things. Right now I’m head of softlines," said Glasser, who was reached at his Boston office. Glasser said among the issues to be determined are whether he will be permanently based in Boston and whether his responsibilities could later include merchandising at Value City’s Filene’s Basement operation.
