ADIOS EN ESPANOL: Condé Nast International said Wednesday that it would cease publication of Spanish-language editions of two of its U.S. magazines while increasing distribution of their Mexico-based counterparts. Vogue en Español and Glamour en Español, which are headquartered in Miami, will be shut down as part of the restructuring. The company will retain a small office in Miami, but the bulk of its resources will be transferred to the Mexico City office. Meanwhile, distribution of the Mexican editions of Vogue, Glamour and Architectural Digest will be expanded throughout North America. Condé Nast International is a unit of Advance Publications Inc., parent of WWD.

BUSH ASKS FOR TPA: The Bush administration on Wednesday formally requested an extension of the President’s Trade Promotion Authority through July 1, 2007. The administration’s request will extend the current deadline of July 1 for two years, unless either the House or the Senate disapproves it in the next three months. The administration maintains TPA is crucial to free-trade negotiations with foreign countries, since having it means Congress cannot amend trade pacts, only vote to approve or disapprove them.

NO GAPS: Gap Inc. said Anne Gust will step down as executive vice president, chief administrative officer and chief compliance officer of the San Francisco-based retailer effective May 13. Lauri Shanahan will be the new chief compliance officer, in addition to her duties as Gap’s executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Gust’s administrative responsibilities will be divided among senior officials, including Byron Pollitt, executive vice president and chief financial officer, who will oversee real estate. Gust leaves Gap with a “strong compliance team and standards in place,” said the company. Gust’s departure coincides with the announcement last week that she will wed her longtime companion, Jerry Brown, the mayor of Oakland. Brown, a former governor, is preparing to run for state attorney general.
