• BUILDING ON BILL: The Fashion Institute of Technology is looking to expand upon the late Bill Blass’ gift of $1 million to the college with a fund-raiser in his honor scheduled for Nov. 3. The event, at the Waldorf-Astoria, will honor columnist Liz Smith and the legacy of Blass, with the aim of raising funds for the construction of the Bill Blass Center for Innovative Design, which FIT described as a center to house technologically advanced equipment for fashion and knitwear design. Honorary chairs for the event are Oscar de la Renta; Christina Johnson, president and chief executive officer of Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises; and Peter G. Scotese, chairman emeritus of the FIT board. Gala chairs are Stephanie George, president of In Style magazine, and Michael Groveman, president and ceo of Bill Blass Ltd.

  • TIFFANY ROLLS A SEVEN: Tiffany & Co. is planning to open a 5,300-square-foot unit at The Gardens of the Palm Beaches, the upscale shopping mall in the South Florida community, next year. Beth O. Canavan, executive vice president of U.S. retail for Tiffany & Co, said, “We view The Gardens of the Palm Beaches as an ideal location to serve this important and growing market.” The unit, which is expected to open by July, will be Tiffany’s seventh in Florida. Tiffany also has stores on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach, Bal Harbor, Tampa, Orlando, Coral Gables and Boca Raton.

  • FIG HONORS: The Fashion Industries Guild of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center will honor the owners of Strategic Partners Inc. and its division, Cherokee Uniforms, at its 47th annual charity dinner dance Saturday at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Michael Singer, Scott Sigman, Robert Pierpoint and Susan Nunez founded the company in 1995 through a management buyout of the uniform division assets of Cherokee Inc. The partners are supporters of children’s programs at Cedars-Sinai and the Children’s Museum of Los Angeles. Proceeds from the event will benefit Cedars-Sinai’s Child Neurology and Neurodevelopment Program in the Ruth Bregman Children’s Health Clinic.
