In Brief: Growing Vines … Iconix Inks Mudd Tops Deal

GROWING VINES: Two of Connecticut’s most enterprising families are teaming up. Vineyard Vines has formed a partnership with the Mitchell family, owners of Mitchells, Richards and Marshs, to own and operate a flagship on Greenwich Avenue. The 5,000-square-foot store will be at 145 Greenwich Avenue and will open this fall, according to Bob Mitchell, copresident of Mitchells/Richards/Marshs. The store will open this fall. Vineyard Vines, the Stamford, Conn.-based accessories and sportswear manufacturer, currently operates one company-owned store in Martha’s Vineyard and has partnerships with two other retailers. Puritan Clothing Co. operates a unit in Mashpee, Mass., on Cape Cod, and Murray’s Toggery Shop in Nantucket will open a Vineyard Vines by Murray’s store this summer in that upper-end island community. Ian Murray, co-chief executive officer and cofounder of Vineyard Vines with his brother, Shep, said a company-owned children’s store also will open in the Vineyard later this year.

ICONIX INKS MUDD TOPS DEAL: Iconix Brand Group has signed a licensing agreement with The Cayre Group to produce junior tops for the newly acquired Mudd brand. The new collection will hit stores for spring 2007. Cayre takes over manufacturing from Tack Fat Group International, which sold the Mudd brand to Iconix in April for $45 million in cash and 3,269,231 shares of the company’s stock. Mudd is expected to generate between $18 million and $20 million in royalty revenue in 2007.
