TRADE ENVOY RESIGNS: Grant Aldonas has resigned as undersecretary of international trade at the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Bush administration’s chief diplomat between the U.S. textile industry and importers. The resignation is effective March 31, said a Commerce spokeswoman. Aldonas, who spearheaded domestic manufacturing initiatives, was among the contenders for the job of U.S. Trade Representative, which was recently vacated by Robert Zoellick. Zoellick was confirmed by the Senate on Wednesday as Deputy Secretary of State. It wasn’t clear whether Aldonas’ departure put him out of the running.
NEW POLO GROUNDS: Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. has leased 186,000 square feet of office space in the former Revlon Building at 625 Madison Avenue in New York, adding to its existing offices at 650 Madison Avenue. SL Green Realty Corp., the real estate investment trust that bought the building in October, said Thursday that Polo signed a 15-year lease in the 17-story building that Revlon vacated in 2003.
