MEXICANS JOIN QUOTA QUEST: The Mexican National Chamber of Textile Industry has joined a coalition of U.S. and Turkish textile and apparel associations pushing for the extension of global apparel and textile quotas through 2007. Their goal is to pressure governments to put the issue on the agenda at the World Trade Organization, whose members would have to unanimously approve any extension of the quotas. The quotas are set to expire at the end of the year as part of a 10-year phaseout mandated by the WTO. In a letter the coalition plans to send to the director-general of the WTO, the associations request an emergency session no later than July 1 to address the issues.
