NEW PRESIDENT AT JUDITH JACK: Beth Vogel has taken over as president of Judith Jack, following the departure last month of Michael Horowitz. Vogel, who began on Monday, was formerly the vice president of design, merchandise and marketing at sterling silver jewelry firm M.W. Samara Inc. At Samara, Vogel has been replaced by Bonnie Bennett, who had been senior vice president of design at Victoria & Co., where she oversaw the Napier and Nine West jewelry lines.
BEALLS PROMOTION: Tianne Doyle has been promoted to senior vice president, general merchandise manager for Bealls Outlet Stores Inc., the Bradenton, Fla.-based 402-unit off-price chain. She became a vice president last year and a general merchandise manager in 2001. Doyle joined Bealls in 1991 as the buyer of misses’ sportswear and swimwear, rose to divisional merchandise manager of misses’, petite and plus-size sportswear in 1996, and from 1998 to 2001, she held additional responsibilities of merchandising dresses, swimwear, shoes and children’s, as well as overseeing the import department.
CARRYING THE DAY: Carrefour, the French hypermarket giant, on Wednesday reported full-year sales up 4.6 percent to $74.22 billion (converted from euros at current exchange rates). Net profit jumped 15 percent to $1.5 billion, with earnings per share after goodwill amortization up 15.1 percent to $2.10.Chairman Daniel Bernard projected sales would increase 5 percent for 2003.
SOHO SHUTTERINGS: Furla closed its SoHo boutique at 430 West Broadway on Friday. The Italian handbag and accessories company is the latest luxury retailer to close its doors in the neighborhood. The Vivienne Westwood boutique on Greene Street shut down last week as well, while jeweler H. Stern, which was slated to open a store at Prince and Mercer Streets, has opted out of the SoHo retail scene.
Peter Kim's Los Angeles-based premium denim line has always had its finger on the pulse of youth.
