In Brief: Party with Jones … High-Priced Goods on the High Sea

Jones Apparel Group Inc. launched a party plan concept called Million Wishes, which aims to bring the latest fashion accessories directly to consumers in their homes, the company said in a statement Monday.

PARTY WITH JONES: Jones Apparel Group Inc. launched a party plan concept called Million Wishes, which aims to bring the latest fashion accessories directly to consumers in their homes, the company said in a statement Monday. Through two semiannual catalogues — in March and September — Million Wishes will feature 200 to 300 items, including jewelry, handbags, belts and scarves that customers can purchase via designated “style consultants,” following a party with friends. The first catalogue will launch next March. The style consultants will be able to place orders via a corporate Web site, with orders shipped directly to customers. About 3,000 style consultants will be recruited in 2006, Jones said. In three years, Million Wishes expects to have 9,000 consultants.

HIGH-PRICED GOODS ON THE HIGH SEA: Commercial real estate services company CB Richard Ellis has been appointed the exclusive leasing agent for the 80,000 square feet of retail space aboard a residential ocean liner called The Orphalese, expected to set sail in fall 2008. The mall deck space will be marketed to upscale retailers and service providers, such as boutiques, spas, restaurants and entertainment venues, and led by Susan Kurland and James de Winter of CBRE Retail Services. According to a statement, Orphalese Global Strategies, a consulting and management group, and CBRE are “positioning the space as the world’s first floating luxury shopping mall.” The Orphalese will offer 200 permanent residences, from 1,000 to 4,000 square feet, and 265 guest suites. The ship will spend about 200 days in various ports around the world. Sales and reservations have already begun, and a sales office will open in Las Vegas in December, managed by Avalar of the Seas.
