TASHIRO JOINS GAP: Toshiaki Tashiro, the former president of Gucci Japan, has been named an outside director of Gap Japan. The retailer operates 89 Gap stores and four Banana Republics throughout Japan with estimated sales of $520 million (60 billion yen at current exchange) at retail. Tashiro currently is a director of Georg Jensen. After Gucci, Tashiro also became representative director of ANF, the 100 percent-owned Japanese company of Abercrombie & Fitch. ANF was liquidated in December 2005. Abercrombie & Fitch originally planned to open a large freestanding store in Japan by the end of 2006, but industry sources said the Japanese market is no longer at the top of the retailer’s priority list for now.
