• TERRIFIC TWOS: T-shirt maker Michael Stars will open its second store on trendy Montana Avenue in Santa Monica, Calif., today. Inside the 800- square-foot boutique, maple shelves and white walls serve as a backdrop to the line’s colorful T-shirts, tanks, turtlenecks and maternity apparel. The unit will also stock a men’s line, children’s T-shirts and the recently launched fragrance, Michael Stars, the Original Scent. Retail prices range from $24 to $64. Vice president Simon Cohen said the location emulates the feel of Manhattan Beach, Calif., where the company opened its first store in December 2001. Cohen, son of owner and founder Michael Cohen, doesn’t anticipate any channel conflict with existing retailers, since Sara, a Montana Avenue boutique carrying the line, will be closing. More Southern California locations are planned for the Hawthorne, Calif.-based company, he said.
