U.K. COMMITTEE TO QUIZ BURBERRY: A U.K. parliamentary committee plans to ask Burberry executives to defend the proposed closure of the company’s polo shirt factory in Wales this month. The Welsh Affairs Committee inquiry, called “Globalization and Its Impact on Wales,” is expected to quiz Burberry executives as part of its investigation into the impact of globalization on employment in the region. But the committee has no power to prevent the factory’s closure. “We thought that it was opportune to invite Burberry to provide evidence and background about why they intend to close the factory,” said Hywel Francis, chairman of the committee. A spokesman for Burberry stressed there was still no certainty the Welsh factory would close.
