• WESTWARD HO!: Marks & Spencer plans to plant one more flag in West London with a 152,000-square-foot anchor store at Chelsfield’s White City retail park. The store, due to open in fall 2006, will carry the M&S clothing, home and food lines. “[There is] untapped opportunity in West London,” said Chris Williams, property director at M&S. “We believe White City will be one of the leading retail offers in the U.K.”

  • WRIGHT SWEETENS ELDER DEAL:Wright Holdings and Elder-Beerman Stores Corp. have amended their merger agreement upping Wright’s cash payment to Elder-Beerman shareholders to $7.05 a share from $6. The move was in response to Bon-Ton Stores Corp. offer to pay Elder-Beerman shareholders $7 a share in cash for the company’s common stock. Under the terms of the merger agreement, Elder-Beerman was required to negotiate exclusively with Wright for three business days regarding adjustments to the terms of their merger agreement.
