A NEW DEMOCRACY: Kellwood Co. is reorganizing its Democracy business, and aligning it with David Dart. Anna Song, executive vice president of sales and head of David Dart, will now also run Democracy in the newly formed David Dart/Democracy Design Group. The branding team for Democracy have left the company. Meanwhile, Kellwood is in the process of introducing a misses jeans line for spring 2004 under the Democracy Clothing Company label.

PROMOTING CHINA: David Chu, founder and designer of Nautica, has launched an annual $25,000 design grant in an effort to promote the design industry in China.
The grant aims to provide the most talented and innovative of Chinese designers with the funding required to promote their goods on an international level and establish local businesses. The grant will be a collaborative effort between David Chu/Nautica and the Chinese Fashion Designers Association.
“China has an incredibly rich cultural heritage, as well as many talented young designers,” Chu said. “The grant allows me to assist these designers in realizing their dreams.”
