DENNIS TO LIZ: Sara Dennis was appointed to the new position of vice president of product development for Liz Claiborne Inc.’s namesake apparel business, effective Oct. 6.
Most recently, Dennis was senior vice president of jeans, underwear and swim at Calvin Klein. Dennis will pick up responsibility for product development of the most casual elements of the Liz Claiborne line, including knitwear, jeans, durable separates and golf merchandise, and report to Debbie Martin, vice president and group creative director.
“Sara has a proven ability to evaluate current design trends and translate them into appropriately innovative products,” Martin said in a statement.
TOURING FOR A CAUSE: Liz Claiborne Inc. and Marie Claire magazine will launch their No More Tour in New York today in conjunction with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The effort to stimulate dialogue and raise awareness of violence against women will make stops in Washington, Atlanta, Austin, Tex., and Los Angeles. At each stop, the tour will sponsor an event at a local university with speakers and a film festival showing winning films from the Stop the Violence short film contest.
Claiborne has been addressing domestic violence through a series of education and awareness campaigns since 1991.
MOORE VISION: The Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia last week presented designer Adrienne Vittadini with its new Visionary Woman Award. Urban planner Denise Scott Brown and artist Jane Golden also received the award.
“We are launching the Visionary Woman Awards as a way to celebrate and honor women who have used their incredible talent and innovative skills to break new ground and to be important role models,” Moore’s president, Happy Craven Fernandez, said in a statement.
The awards dinner was attended by 240 people. Pamela Fiori, editor of Town and Country, presented Vittadini with her award. The designer graduated from Moore in 1966 with a bachelor’s of fine arts in fashion design and launched a women’s knitwear line in 1979.
