INTIMARE CANCELED: Intimare, Italy’s semiannual lingerie and swimwear fair, is taking a break this September before switching venues to Milan from Bologna next year. The next show will be staged in February at the Milan Convention Center, said Sandro Giuliani, a spokesman for show organizer ARK.
Giuliani said the company was forced to cancel the September edition because it was not able to coordinate the switch of venues fast enough.
"We thought it would be better to bring it in a more general fashion context. The fair was a bit separated from other fashion events," he said. Last February’s edition drew about 6,000 attendees.
FEMMY HONOREES: The Underfashion Club has announced the honorees of the 2003 Femmy Awards:
Phyllis Gorell, intimates buyer at Kohl’s; Steven R. McCracken, president of DuPont Textiles & Interiors, and David Welsch, president of Cupid Foundations Inc.
Femmy Lifetime Achievement awards will be presented to Norma Reinhardt, former executive vice president of merchandising at Westchester Lace Inc., and Sheila Solomon, national sales and merchandise manager at Priamo Designs Inc.
The awards are in recognition of the executives’ contributions to the fashion apparel industries, as well as their community service.
The Femmy Awards are scheduled for March 4, 2003 at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.
ANNE KLEIN INKS LICENSE: The Anne Klein division of Kasper ASL Ltd. has signed a licensing agreement with House of Dreams, a subsidiary of Loomworks Apparel, to domestically manufacture and distribute AK Anne Klein sleepwear.
A former licensing agreement with JWE Silk expired this year, said a spokeswoman for the Kasper firm. The new AK Anne Klein sleepwear collection will be unveiled at the January market for fall 2003 selling.
John Idol, chairman and chief executive officer of Kasper, described the Anne Klein name as a lifestyle brand and said: "Sleepwear is a natural component of the total product offering under the Anne Klein labels. We have great confidence in House of Dreams and their commitment to promote design and distribution objectives of the AK Anne Klein brand within the sleepwear arena."
Loomworks Apparel also owns and produces sleepwear under the PJ Salvage label, which holds the license for Rampage and Disney Vintage by PJ Salvage sleepwear and loungewear.
PET PROJECT: Sanrio, a gift and stationary company known for its Hello Kitty character, has signed a licensing pact with Age Group to produce a collection of junior intimates and sleepwear bearing the Hello Kitty brand.
"We want to broaden the Hello Kitty program for the junior market and we see tremendous opportunity for intimate apparel," said Caroline Wong, director of softlines licensing for Sanrio.
The initial line for spring will feature long pajama sets, boxer sets, camis and coordinating boy-cut briefs, sleepwear T-shirts, and bikinis and thongs. Distribution is aimed at major department stores and specialty operations. Suggested retail for sleepwear will range from $15 to $40; panties and daywear will be $4 to $20.
Richard Adjmi, president of Age Group, said, "Hello Kitty has a built-in cache that is upscale, while at the same time appealing to a broad market. There are a lot of retro characters trying to make a comeback, where Hello Kitty has always been around and remains strong."
