Josie Natori was honored as an Asian-American businesswoman by The Asia Society, a New York organization that presents Asian cultural programs. Natori, who is from the Philippines, is president of The Natori Co.
More than 150 guests turned out to hear Natori talk about her success in the lingerie field, as well as her participation in President Clinton’s pre-inaugural economic summit for small businesses.
“To be successful today in business you have to think globally,” said Natori, whose innerwear businesses and licensees are expected to do more than $40 million in sales this year.
“It’s not easy to enter the apparel field, but I believe my East-West background, especially my interpretation of embroideries, has given me a unique advantage.”
Natori added, however, that she takes a universal approach to make her products salable “in Montana or Hong Kong.”
“Women all over the world want to look feminine and sexy,” she said.
