First the bad news: You’re going to have to wait a little longer for the Broadway hits "The Producers" and "Hairspray" to make their way to Atlanta.
The good news, however, is that all the shows you hemmed and hawed about seeing in New Yorkare finally here, part of the 2002-2003 Broadway in Atlanta series held at the Atlanta Civic Center and the Fox Theatre, both in downtown Atlanta.
Scheduled for long runs at the Fox Theatre and the Atlanta Civic Center, respectively, are "Aida" and "The Lion King" both joint efforts from Disney, hometown hero Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice. Both shows have racked up enough awards to require a reinforced shelf, as has "The Lion King" creator Julie Taymor, for her amazing Noah’s Ark worth of puppets.
Theatergoers have no other choice to see the road show version of "Contact" since the Tony Award winner for Best Musical closed its New York run Labor Day weekend.
This three-part tale of sex, love and connection climaxes with the role of the mysterious girl in the yellow dress, whose vibrant moves set to swing classics will inspire even those with two left feet.
"Jesus Christ Superstar" is a new production of the classic rock opera. Kids and parents alike will appreciate watching old rhyming favorites come to life in "Seussical, The Musical." Tickets, which range from $20 to $60, are available through 1-800-278-4447 or broadwayacrossamerica.com. The Fox Theater, 660 Peachtree Street NE; The Atlanta Civic Center, 395 Piedmont Avenue NE.
