TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE: Jou Jou, New York, is splitting its junior sportswear business into two divisions. The decision came about, said president Clement Soffer, because the company wanted to work more effectively with its retailers.
“It was always confusing about who would buy what,” said Soffer. “The sportswear buyer would come in and buy just a little bit of the denim, or the denim buyer would come in and buy just a little bit of the sportswear. I felt that if we were going to work well with the buyers, we had to refine.”
The denim division’s name will be Jou Jou Sports, while the apparel will be Jou Jou Fashion. The move takes effect with spring shipments.
