Friends of the High Line has a new buddy, the J. Crew Group.
A limited-edition capsule collection, called High Line, has been designed by J. Crew, which said it will donate all of the net proceeds to support the High Line, the former elevated freight railway on the West Side of New York City that’s been transformed into a park. Robert Hammond, cofounder of Friends of the High Line, called the collection “fresh and timeless and perfect for New Yorkers on the go.…As the nonprofit conservancy that operates the High Line, we are always looking to create new ways to sustain the park.”
The collection, including T-shirts, sweatshirts, totes, makeup bags, friendship bracelets and baby onesies, priced from $15 to $78, will be available starting Wednesday at the High Line Shop on West 16th Street, on the High Line Shop Web site, on J. Crew.com and in four J. Crew stores in New York City. The clothes have photos of the High Line, historic depictions of freight trains, botanical illustrations by George Olson and illustrations of the High Line by children’s author Peter Brown. The collection marks the launch of J. Crew’s “Garments for Good” program for charitable product initiatives.
The High Line is a narrow, mile-long stretch of landscaped park, with fountains, seating and a wading pond, providing a unique perspective on the area’s urban renewal, and crosstown views and of the river. It runs from Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District to West 34th Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.
