The trial of Jacob Arabov, also known as "Jacob the Jeweler," has been set for Aug. 6 in Detroit, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan. Arabov, famous for creating bling jewelry for the likes of David and Victoria Beckham, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake, was arrested on June 15 at his Manhattan headquarters on federal money-laundering charges. He is free on bail pending the trial. Arabov has filed a severance motion, along with several others indicted for money laundering last summer. There will be a hearing on March 26 before Detroit Judge Avern Cohn to consider Arabov's petition for a change of venue to New York and a motion to dismiss the indictment. Arabov pled not guilty to participating in an alleged scheme to launder more than $270 million in illegal narcotics proceeds for a Detroit drug organization called the Black Mafia Family. He is being represented by attorney Benjamin Brafman. Arabov, who uses the surname Arabo professionally, was charged with one count of money laundering and was accused of selling jewelry that was purchased by alleged ringleaders Terry Lee Flenory and Demetrius Flenory, and others. If convicted, Arabov faces up to 20 years in prison. Arabov wants the trial in New York, rather than Detroit, so his celebrity clients such as Sean Combs and Jay-Z can appear as character witnesses for him, said a source close to the matter.
