Ever since Michelle Obama wore his one-shoulder gown to the Inaugural Ball, Jason Wu’s profile has skyrocketed. “[It’s] like everything’s on steroids,” he says. Of course, those in the know have been plugged into Wu’s ladylike designs for some time. Last year, he nabbed Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award and was named a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist. Now, three years after his debut, the Taiwan native has transitioned his line from its initial eveningwear focus to sportswear, winning rave reviews for his fall 2009 fairy-tale-inspired collection of posh-yet-youthful wares.
