NEW YORK — John Pletzke has been appointed as J. Jill Group’s new vice president of product management and sourcing.

He is responsible for product sourcing and execution from design inception through production.

Pletzke joins J. Jill with more than 17 years of experience in merchandising, product development and sourcing, and was most recently vice president of production and global sourcing for Gap Inc.’s Banana Republic division. In 11 years with Gap, he also served as senior director of production for men’s wear and nonapparel products; as merchandise manager, home furnishings, for Banana Republic; and as managing director, corporate sourcing, at the Gap stores.

Earlier in his career he held product development posts with A|X Armani Exchange and Polo Ralph Lauren.

At J. Jill, Pletzke reports to Stephen Pearson, senior vice president of sourcing and product integrity, with whom he had previously been associated at Banana Republic.

Gordon Cooke, president and chief executive of J. Jill, said in a statement that Pletzke’s appointment “represents another important step in our ongoing efforts to improve our operating platform. We believe that John’s talent and experience will significantly assist us in our efforts to improve our overall product quality and value while streamlining our processes.”

Quincy, Mass.-based J. Jill is a specialty retailer of women’s apparel and accessories, with 117 stores as well as catalog and Internet operations.
