NEW YORK — Barry Bates has been named president of L.E.I., the junior sportswear division of Jones Apparel Group, effective July 11.
Most recently, Bates was president of Unionbay, where he worked since 1996. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of apparel sales at Esprit de Corp. and earlier was president of Sam & Libby Apparel. From 1985 to 1990, Bates was executive vice president of Unionbay.
In his new post, Bates will head day-to-day operations of L.E.I. and will oversee management of the brand. He reports to Andy Cohen, group president of L.E.I and Energie brands, whom he had previously worked with at Sam & Libby and Esprit.
Cohen was traveling and couldn’t be reached for comment, but said in a statement, “Barry is a very involved brand manager with a well-rounded skill set. His hands-on approach will be focused to further develop both the L.E.I. denim and knit top businesses.”
