NEW YORK — It’s a period of upheaval for the firm, so it isn’t surprising that Gap showed a smaller-than-usual fall collection this time around. But there were still plenty of appealing looks in the simple lineup of men’s wear-inspired styles in a mostly gray and black palette. Wide-leg trousers were key, shown in solids, pinstripes and muted plaids, while little fitted vests added to the haberdashery vibe. A few jewel-toned frocks brightened things up, though the real highlights were the great shirtdresses, done in crisp traditional men’s fabrics.
