Laid-back dressing is a way of life from coast to coast, and teenagers work the formula better than most. WWD decided to take a look at what constitutes casual, as defined by teens in two of the country’s fashion capitals: New York and L.A.

The results? Perhaps more similar than you’d think. In either city, the foundation is decidedly denim, with low-rise jeans leaving plenty of room for Britneyesque displays of skin. Skirts go either knee-length and full or skinny mini.
