NEW YORK — Kellwood Co. has a new president for its Kellwood New England division in Barbara Cavanagh.

The 27-year industry veteran, who took up her new mantle on Monday, was most recently vice president of product development for Saks Inc.’s Saks Fifth Avenue luxury unit, where she directed the retail chain’s private label development. Before that, she held various positions at SFA managing brands, from coats and eveningwear to dresses and suits.

Cavanagh succeeds Jeffrey Aschkenes, who has left the firm. She will be based in the division’s offices in Brockton, Mass., and reports to Stephen Ruzow, president of Kellwood women’s wear.

“This is a natural progression for [Cavanagh] as she has a strong and diverse background in areas such as product development, branding and merchandising,” Ruzow said. “She is a leader who has the ability to direct and focus the Kellwood New England talents to maximize our brands’ potential at retail and to the end consumer.”

The Kellwood New England division of the $2.4 billion Kellwood consists of the David Brooks and Northern Isles brands, as well as the Emme and Bill Burns labels produced under licensing agreements.
