Kimora Lee Simmons is trading up.

The creative director of junior sportswear brand Baby Phat is planning a soft launch for KLS Collection, a higher-end contemporary brand for spring retailing. The brand, owned by Kellwood Co., plans a full launch for fall, and the collection will be highlighted on the runway during Simmons' February fashion show in New York.

"It will be for a more grown-up girl," a spokesman for Simmons said. "There will be more career clothes for a woman who is working, has more income, but still wants fashion and luxury."

The company plans to ship only a small line to select specialty stores for spring. The spokesman said the prices for KLS would be higher than Baby Phat's, and the line would be done in richer fabrics and tailored fits. He said to expect a full line of sportswear, including jeans, skirts, blouses, pants and dresses. He added that Simmons was paying close attention to detail, using Swarovski crystals, high-end denim and luxurious silks.
