PARIS — With a collection fusing Twenties silhouettes with Fifties cancan skirts, Kinder Aggugini’s nascent label, Kinder, is ready for its curtain call.
Italian-born Aggugini, whose fashion credentials include being head designer at Versace, plus stints at Calvin Klein, Costume National, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and John Galliano, plans to stage his first runway show for the label in London next season.
Aggugini’s first collection was inspired by imagining what would have happened if Coco Chanel had married rock musician Sid Vicious. His fourth channels a similarly elaborate fantasy, centered on turn-of-the-century Scottish artist Charles Mackintosh.
“I imagined he fell in love with a French cancan girl. He painted her a watercolor dress and then she goes into the water,” said Aggugini, referring to his blurred floral prints on a silk puffball dress, made from ottoman fabric. Other highlights include silk-and-linen-blend jackets adorned with vintage buttons and featuring a polkadot lining. Dresses start at 350 euros, or $470 at current exchange, at wholesale and go up to 500 euros, or $670.
Founded in 2006, Kinder currently wholesales to Jeffrey, Maxfield and Dover Street Market. The spring collection also has been picked up by Barneys New York and Ikram in Chicago.

“There’s a huge gap between the old way of doing things and today. It takes the youth to help evolve that. You have to count on the kids today to help lead you into the future. A lot of these retailers are stuck in the past. Communication is the biggest thing,” said @ronniefieg of @kith on the youth’s role in retail.
