NEW YORK — Creative Director Tom Ford, who has created an “it bag” or two for Gucci, is making a bid to do so again, offering a new made-to-order handbag collection inspired by five iconic bags from the house’s archives. The group includes such memorable shapes as the Jackie O, a classic tote design, and a sophisticated lady bag. Revamped with sleeker lines and a
new logo, the pieces are offered in 37 colors and materials, from calf leather to crocodile with various metal hardware details. Customers can create their dream bag, then have their initials embossed in the lining. The line will be available in November
at 16 Gucci stores around the world at prices ranging from $1,950 for a leather bag to $17,250 for a large crocodile
tote. Here, Gucci’s leather shopping tote with wooden handles, $2,800, and crocodile bag with wooden trim, $11,600.
