Coty Inc. teamed up with Karl Lagerfeld on Thursday to create a signature line of fragrances.

"Karl Lagerfeld is one of the — if not the — most influential fashion icons, idols and trendsetters of the 20th century, and no doubt his legacy will be idolized by generations to come," Bernd Beetz, chief executive officer of Coty Inc. said in a statement. "His magnetic personality, powerful charisma and undeniably prestigious styles are coveted by celebrities, designers and consumers worldwide. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to work together to market the signature line of Lagerfeld fragrances."

Coty Inc. had acquired the Karl Lagerfeld license in 2005, when the company purchased the Unilever Cosmetics International business, which included Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Cerruti and Chloé fragrance brands. The Lagerfeld fragrance line marks the first time Coty and Lagerfeld have worked together. As part of the alliance, Coty plans to continue the distribution of the existing Lagerfeld fragrances.

The Coty Prestige brand portfolio includes Baby Phat, Calvin Klein, Cerruti, Chloé, Chopard, Davidoff, Jennifer Lopez, Jette Joop, Jil Sander, Joop, Kenneth Cole, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lancaster, Marc Jacobs, Nautica, Nikos, Sarah Jessica Parker, Vera Wang and Vivienne Westwood. Coty also has a strategic partnership with Puig for the distribution of the fragrance lines of Nina Ricci, Carolina Herrera, Prada, Paco Rabanne, and Comme des Garçons in the U.S. and Canada.
