Chris Kolbe, chief merchandising and design officer at Lands’ End, has revamped the company’s holiday assortment with a handcrafted, “heirloom” angle geared toward gifts for the whole family. There are needlepoint iPad and Kindle cases, knitted Christmas tree ornaments and stockings, Argentinian leather dog collars and stuffed penguins handmade in Kenya by Kenana Knitters, a fair wage and trade organization. “We focused on gifts with a strong sense of where they came from,” said Kolbe, who has worked at Ralph Lauren and founded the label Penguin in 2002. As for the clothes, they adhere to the Lands’ End standard of American classic with sweaters, peacoats, Oxford shirts and corduroys.
