NEW YORK — Designers such as Marc Jacobs, Gilles Mendel and Narciso Rodriguez are helping LIM College, The College for Business and Fashion, to deck its halls for the holidays.
Under the eyes of LIM’s fashion department chair, Maxinne Spector; stylist Nick Steele, and fashion illustrator J. David McKenney, the school enticed designers to create ornaments indicative of 12 holiday trends. Seventh Avenue seems to be feeling rather generous, considering 43 companies provided signature decorations for the tree, which will be illuminated Thursday at the school on East 53rd Street here.
In addition to Jacobs, Mendel and Rodriguez, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Nanette Lepore, Proenza Schouler, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang and Zac Posen also designed ornaments for the tree. Their decorations will highlight these spring trends — color, voluminous proportions, belts, long skirts, Victorian, metallics, frilly dresses, ruffles, homespun looks, boyfriend styles, angelic options and bows. A Marc Jacobs’ ball with a drawing of one of his bulbous coats, for example, was used to illustrate the volume trend.
“We were thrilled to have an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the coming spring 2006 season in such a creative way,” said LIM President Elizabeth S. Marcuse. “Our students learn firsthand the business of fashion and trend forecasting is a vital and ever-expanding part of that business.”
