NEW YORK — Louis Gioia, a former fashion illustrator at Fairchild Publications, died Nov. 18 at his son's home in Garden City, N.Y. He was 86.

The cause of death was complications from Parkinson's disease, his family said.

Gioia began his career at Fairchild in the early Fifties and worked for the company for more than 30 years. An accomplished illustrator, Gioia worked mostly for Menswear Magazine, but also illustrated for other Fairchild titles, including WWD, W and DNR.

For most of his adult life, Gioia lived in Greenwich Village, a block from Fairchild's former offices. After retiring, he stayed active with freelance work and tennis.

Gioia is survived by his former wife, Katherine; three sons, Tony, Tassos and Chris Gioia; a daughter, Ana Gioia, and eight grandchildren.
