It may have been a rainy, dreary day, but the women at Rich’s annual fashion show for the benefit of the Lovett School still had spring shopping on their minds. “We modeled in this show for 18 years. Now we’re here to shop it,” quipped Beth Ann Tartoot, who was there with fellow runway veteran Martha Jo Katz.
The store pulled out all the stops with designs from every department — designer to children’s. Each outfit came topped with headgear created in the spirit of the season, from huge spring hats to avant-garde confections of twigs, grass and twine. Even the children blossomed, their heads forming the centers for giant fabric daisies.
And while a showstopping cream crocheted tank dress from DKNY drew plenty of applause, it was accessories like the single long twig twisted in the model’s hair that drew the most comment. “I loved all the stuff in their hair,” said one perplexed guest. “But they don’t really have them for sale at Rich’s, do they?”
