NEW YORK — MAC Cosmetics is joining the bridge-and-tunnel crowd. In December, the trendy beauty firm is slated to open a 1,100-square-foot store in Brooklyn Heights in a location that is now occupied by the Summa Gallery, marking MAC’s first foray into the outer boroughs, WWD has learned.

A company spokeswoman said few details were available yet for the store, which will be located on Montague Street, the main shopping strip in the neighborhood, which is right over the Brooklyn Bridge. MAC has been pushing into a wider range of locales around the city: It recently opened a shop in Harlem, across from the famed Apollo Theater.

Although some areas of Brooklyn have been overrun with trendy shops and boutiques in recent years, Montague Street is far from the epicenter of hip. The area is known for its historic brownstones and family-friendly environment. Nonetheless, more national chains have moved into the neighborhood lately, including an Aerosoles, which opened earlier this year, also on Montague Street.
