NEW YORK — Start spreading the…fragrance? That’s exactly the idea behind Bond No. 9, a collection of 16 fragrances where each scent boasts a name that represents a different New York neighborhood or experience.

The collection was the brainchild of Laurice Rahme, founder of Bond No. 9 and president of Creed USA. She noted, “we have two missions: to restore artistry to the business and to provide each New York neighborhood with its own scent.”
The collection is available at the company’s headquarters at 9 Bond Street and will roll out to its additional locations at 680 Madison Avenue and 897 Madison Avenue in April. The collection will be available for Fall 2003 at upscale specialty retail outlets and internationally in Fall 2004.
The women’s scents include: Broadway Nite, New York Fling, Chelsea Flowers, Eau de Noho, Fashion Avenue, Madison Soiree, Nuits de Noho, Park Avenue and So New York. For men there are: Chez Bond, Great Jones, H.O.T. Always and Riverside Drive. Unisex scents include: Gramercy Park, Nouveau Bowery and West Broadway.
The perfumes were created using 18 to 22 percent concentrations of pure eaux de parfums — all blended in New York. And, in order to work on this project, each perfumer had to be a New Yorker. The juices were developed by Dragoco, Mane and Robertet.
Bond No. 9 scents run between $40 and $45 per ounce for the juice. Contemporary or vintage art bottles are priced from $80 to $200 and suede bottles, which are available in a variety of colors with an atomizer, are priced between $20 and $28. The fragrances also will be available in star-shaped bottles for distribution to retailers. The bottle has a subway token on the front — each scent’s will be different for identification — and will be priced at $150 for a 3.4-oz. version.
Industry sources estimate the line will do $500,000 wholesale for fall 2003.
Ancillaries — a body cream, lotion and bath products — are planned for spring 2004, and the collection will be expanded later this spring with four additional scents: Harlem, China Town, East Village and West Village.
