MILAN — Malo is expanding its product range, including a line of leather goods, and strengthening its design team.
Under the management of chief executive Stefano Ferro, who joined the Florence-based cashmere company this year, Malo has enlisted Gianni Bugli as creative director for knitwear. Bugli was a knitwear designer at Yves Saint Laurent. Pietro De Angelis, a designer at Prada’s men’s wear division and Valentino, has been tapped to design Malo’s men’s division.
Among the new items Malo introduced are two styles of sunglasses, which bowed last month at Mido, the international eyewear trade fair. The glasses are produced by Allison, owned by IT Holding, which took control of Malo in 1999 from founders Alfredo and Giacomo Canessa.
With its new collection of leather goods, which include wallets and handbags, Malo is focused on the natural and innovative tanning of the hides. This process can be applied to all hides, from calf to ostrich to crocodile, making them soft and opaque.
Malo reported sales of $93.6 million last year, up from $87.8 million the previous year, and it expects double-digit growth this year. Dollar figures are converted from euros at current exchange rates.
Malo expects accessories to account for 30 percent of sales in the first year. The new product lines should be in stores by the end of September.

The murals are McCoy’s interpretation of a Christmas eve party, the idea of charity and the spirit of family. His third mural, pictured here, is the most personal.
