NEW YORK — Maurizio Marchiori, vice president of marketing for Diesel USA, is leaving the company after 17 years to become the general director of Alstare, the Belgium-based motorcycle racing organization.
"It's very difficult to leave the company, but I want to challenge myself and follow my passion," said Marchiori, who will relocate to Belgium from New York.
Dan Barton, director of communications at Diesel, will assume Marchiori's responsibilities until a permanent replacement has been named.
Today is Marchiori's last day, and on Friday night, he will be in Italy for the Superbike World Championship. Prior to assuming his current post in 2001, Marchiori was communications director for Diesel worldwide.
"My decision to leave was not related to the company," he said. "It was my personal decision. It was time. I'm so loyal, I've only worked two jobs in my life and the one before this I did for 16 years.
"I am part of this company and will be, in spirit, for quite some time," he said. "I'm 53 years old and I need a new challenge."
