Material World will launch Material World West, a new Los Angeles show, replacing its annual New York event.

Despite "success" in New York, Tim von Gal, president of Material World, said the West Coast venue would open access to California's domestic production and manufacturing hubs, and serve as a gateway to the Pacific Rim countries.

"It's important for vendors, mills and contractors that we present the largest customer opportunity, and California, with its dynamic production community and fashion manufacturing base, offers exceptional access," he said.

The West Coast show will offer the same content, including fabric and trim, technology and sourcing exhibitors relating to the sewn products industry.

The inaugural show on the West Coast is scheduled for Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, 2009, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. It will be an annual fall event, in place of Material World's show in New York, which since 2005 has been held in September at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.

The annual spring edition of Material World, which started in September 2001, will continue at the Miami Beach Convention Center. The most recent event drew about 400 exhibitors. The next show is scheduled for April 21 to 23, 2009.

Material World is owned by Atlanta-based Urban Expositions and sponsored by the American Apparel & Footwear Association.
