For Alexander McQueen, a summer romp on the British seaside is anything but a dull affair.

His second McQ collection was full of fun, from awning-striped dresses to miniskirts cut in broderie anglaise, as well as candy-colored tennis sweaters, flashy plaids and, naturally, loads of denim. A halter dress spliced together from bandana prints brought McQueen’s signature look to mind, and T-shirts printed with acrobats or a circus chimp gave the 190-piece collection a smart, young edge.

But while the look was light-hearted, and while McQueen may have taken inspiration from scary carnival clowns, the clothes were utterly wearable — and plenty cool, too.
