Workers are busy constructing the two Mexx stores slated to open in Manhattan this fall at Union Square and on Fifth Avenue, where the former Liz Claiborne store was situated.

A third location is planned for The Westchester Mall, also opening this fall. Since Liz Claiborne Inc. acquired the men’s and women’s specialty store — headquartered in the Netherlands — two years ago, the brand has boosted the apparel giant’s position internationally as well as in the specialty store market.

A spokeswoman for Liz Claiborne said the better-priced Mexx brand is hot in Europe and is focused around “Euro-style apparel and accessories for men and women at excellent value,” while adding, “it’s more about attitude than age since Mexx collections reflect a free-spirited, nonconformist and urban lifestyle.”
