Here are what Chicago retailers say will be key items for fall:
Emily Helfrich, owner of Cinnamon boutique on Roscoe Street in Lakeview, will scout Chicago’s StyleMax for slim pants and jeans. “Customers are consistently asking for skinny jeans. When skinny jeans were all the rage, they didn’t do as well as they did on the coasts. In Chicago, it takes longer to catch on. With all those tunic length tops still around, they just look so much better with a slimmer leg.”
For a little sparkle, Ikram Goldman, owner of Ikram on Rush Street, loves Proenza Schouler’s sequin top and pants and Thakoon’s sequin jacket and skirt in mustard. Additional must-haves include Balmain crop tiger-print jeans. “They are spectacular and fit like a glove,” she said. She also recommended a Halston knit duster cardigan, Azzedine Alaïa handbag and Lanvin’s red patent kitten heels. Jim Wetzel, co-owner of Jake with locations on Rush Street, Southport Avenue and in suburban Winnetka, noted his must-haves are a Nicholas Kirkwood knee-high boot in black leather with lizard platform, Matthew Williamson digital floral print belted jacket with fur trim, Brian Reyes silk moiré full skirt, Isabel Marant fur vest and an oversize lavender and black Be & D clutch with bow. Outerwear shapes the fall must-have list for Rosie Dulyapaibul’s boutique Roslyn on Damen Avenue in Chicago. Key pieces include a Mackage Hilary coat in black, a Mackage Ava short coat in graphite and a Nicholas K crop trench with tortoiseshell buttons in smoke.
