ARNOLD’S COMINGS: The Republican convention is set to highlight several major country and western music acts, but there’s little other star power on deck with one big exception: California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Don’t expect the actor-turned-politician to be his ever-present self, though. The governor’s office said he’s keeping a low profile and brushed aside speculation the Republican National Committee is concerned Schwarzenegger might upstage the President. The governor’s public appearances will be limited to red-carpet arrivals at a Motion Picture Association & Recording Industry of America party Tuesday night at the Central Park Boat House and a California delegation party Thursday at Planet Hollywood. The governator may even leave before Bush speaks on Thursday night, which his staff explained would allow Schwarzenegger to put in a full day of work Friday.
“He can get back to California by Thursday evening and watch the speech from here,” said Schwarzenegger communications director Rob Stutzman.
EAST HAMPTON FETE: Howard Gittis is getting a head start on next week’s GOP convention revelry. Gittis, who sits on the boards of Revlon and Jones Apparel Group, is throwing a fund-raiser on Saturday with Metropolitan Transit Authority chairman Peter Kalikow and advertising executive Jerry Della Femina and his wife, TV personality Judy Licht, for Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Arlen Specter’s reelection campaign. The party will be at the Della Femina’s East Hampton, N.Y., home, and there’s a minimum suggested donation of $500 for the four-term senator, known for being retailer-friendly on Capitol Hill. “Arlen has been a friend of mine for 40 years,” said Gittis, dating their friendship to Philadelphia, where Gittis practiced law and Specter was the city’s district attorney.

Etro’s show, titled “The Tree of Life,” was a celebration of the house’s 50th anniversary. “My father founded the company in 1968, which was the year of counterculture and psychedelia. It’s really a show that celebrates that and the paisley design of India and its origin,” said Veronica Etro. #wwdfashion #mfw #ss18 (📷: @delphineachard)
