You would think Nicole Kidman had had enough of red carpets after a paparazzi frenzy on Friday morning at the Chanel show that bordered on the perilous. But Friday night, there was another stretching from the Rue de l’Université up to Karl Lagerfeld’s doorstep for a dinner for her and Baz Luhrmann, director of the new No.5 commercial starring Kidman. How does the actress keep her cool? “I just go into a quiet, Zen-like state and I just breathe through it,” she said. Guests — who included Sofia Coppola, Princess Caroline of Monaco and Betty Lagardere — marveled at the trompe l’oeil courtyard and dining room Chanel constructed over the garden just for the event. Lagerfeld invited a few designer friends, including Hedi Slimane, Helmut Lang, Viktor Horsting, Rolf Snoeren and Valentino Garavani, who mugged for the camera with Kidman, before Lagerfeld tugged her away. Over dinner, Kidman shared one of her favorite tactics for avoiding the limelight: “I just put on a baseball cap and wear my glasses,” she said. She did just that right after the Chanel show — and passed a few hours unnoticed, reading in the gardens of Palais Royal.
