LONDON — A clutch of luxury brands and designers were lauded in London Monday night at the Banqueting Hall in London by Walpole, the not-for-profit British luxury trade organization.

Nicholas Kirkwood, who has had a successful year so far, was awarded with Emerging British Luxury Brand Award.

“It’s so important to keep up the tradition of craftsmanship, or else we’ll lose it,” said Ben Rowe, creative director at Shaun Leane, who — along with Rowe — was awarded the Walpole Award for Best Luxury Craftsmanship. “I started on the ‘bench’ 12 years ago, learning how to make everything by hand; it was key to my knowledge now. We make most of our designs in house and will only send it somewhere else if they are absolutely the best.”

Other winners included Gucci for International Luxury Brand, Alexander McQueen for British Luxury Brand Overseas, Cartier for Corporate Social Responsibility and Paul Smith for British Luxury Design Talent. Angela Ahrendts, the out-going chief executive of Burberry, was presented with a special Medal of Excellence.
