ATLANTA — Marvin Casper, a veteran sales representative and principal of Marvin Casper Associates, a sales firm located in the AmericasMart here, died Thursday. He was 75.
Casper died at Atlanta’s Northside Hospital of a massive hemorrhage.
During the Eighties, Casper owned one of the largest multiline apparel businesses in Atlanta, a 10,000-square-foot showroom representing 12 lines. Known as "Marvin the Dress Maven," he specialized in dresses, suits and special occasion lines that, over the years, included Kasper ASL, Cattiva, Adrianna Papell and Jonathan Logan.
In January, Casper moved to a 1,000-square-foot showroom in AmericasMart, representing one line: Tahari by Arthur S. Levine suits. Casper had repped Levine, former chairman and chief executive officer of Kasper, for 23 years.
"Marvin was held in high regard by his manufacturers and retailers," said Levine, who added that he was key in helping grow the new Tahari suit line. "He was extremely savvy, and knew his customers’ needs."
Casper was born in New Haven, Conn., in 1927, and was a graduate of American International University in Springfield, Mass. After World War II, where he served in the Navy in the South Pacific, he became a salesman for Sero Suits, a men’s shirt manufacturer.
Over the years, he worked with many lines, becoming one of the first multiline tenants in the Atlanta Apparel Mart, which opened in 1979. He grew his business to include, at one point, four showrooms, including Tracy for Marvin Casper, a multiline organization run by his daughter, Tracy Kreiner Barnes, from 1989 to 1990.
Don Overcast, principal, Don Overcast & Associates, also a longtime sales showroom at AmericasMart, described Casper as a mentor. "He helped so many people in the industry, quietly, with no fanfare," said Overcast. "He was a giant in this business."
Casper is survived by his wife and business partner, Patty; a brother, David; two daughters, Randy Babin and Tracy Kreiner Barnes, and four grandchildren.

For the holidays, @Burberry partnered with 20-year-old artist @blondeymccoy on a series of three outdoor murals in downtown Manhattan. The murals are McCoy’s interpretation of a Christmas eve party, the idea of charity and the spirit of family. His third mural, pictured here, is the most personal. The image depicts McCoy’s grandparents and father in London’s Trafalgar Square in the Seventies. “My work often features lots of sentimental objects.” #wwdeye
